The tithi depends on movement of the sun. When the sun and moon
both are situated between 180 degree than we called Purnima tithi and than the
sun and the moon both are situated 0-30 degree than we called Amawasya tithi.
In simple language we can say when the moon is situated in full light of sun
than it situation is Purnima. When the moon does not get full light of the sun
in this situation we called Amawasya tithi.
